One Axe is an LA-based film, theater, and TV collective for women writers, directors, and performers. We produce and develop showcases for new work, full-length plays, short films, video content, comedy nights, and our monthly Pilot Light reading series, where we feature a reading of a brand-new pilot from a female writer, opening the night with comedians, improv troupes, magicians—all of them female-identifying.
We encourage audience interaction. We encourage spontaneity and fun. We encourage anything you feel you can’t do in another theater or wouldn’t be able to sell in a film, but, mostly, we encourage women. We want to live up to our motto: Sharp. Singular. Stories. And we want you to join us. (hint: if you click on the little plus sign at the bottom of the page, you can subscribe to our newsletter for updates on shows and incubator projects.)
One Axe is the brainchild of writer/director A Wolfe but doesn’t get shit done without the hard work of volunteers and dedicated women artists, including Rebecca Aranda, who produces and directs the Women of Color in Comedy nights.
One Axe is a node of the Women’s Center for Creative Work.
