Casting for 2 actresses (age 50–70)

News
Now casting for a lighthearted comedy titled “Bet and Flo” for our Spring industry showcase. This is a script written for two women (50s–70s) to co-lead, a lot of great material here for the right actors.
Logline: Two women shoot the breeze about life, love, and sex from the patio of their Florida retirement complex.

This casting we’re doing a little differently, as we’re accepting taped readings from the script. It’s an experiment! Videos need not be frilly, can just be a quick recording on your smartphone or computer. You can either upload and send the link (Vimeo, Youtube, Google docs, etc.) or simply send the file to us at oneaxeplays@gmail.com. We’re accepting taped auditions from Sunday, March 15–Saturday, March 21.
If you are interested in reading for a part, email us with your headshot in jpg and full contact info, and we’ll send you the script with the sides you’ll read from. You can read for both parts or choose one.
The showcase performance is MARCH 28, so please do not audition if you can’t commit to that night. Rehearsal schedule is flexible and will not be time consuming.
“Bet and Flo”
Written by LaShea Delaney
Directed by Ashley Nicole Black
CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:

Both Bet and Flo live in a retirement community in Florida. They are transplants to the area.

BET- (50s–70s), Bet is the innocent, she only loved her deceased husband so the lusty feelings she has for Charlie make her very uncomfortable.
FLO- (50s–70s), Flo is the cynic, tougher but has a big heart.

Spring Showcase Writer #3: LaShea Delaney

We first heard about LaShea a couple of years ago, when her “B*tches in Bookshops” video went viral. NPR even coined a new generation of intellectuals after her video—”bookish Millennials.” We didn’t even know this was the same LaShea from the video when we accepted her piece “Bet and Flo” for the Spring Showcase. What we knew is that LaShea did what most writers did not when submitting: included +40 female characters. And these characters had sensitivity and humor, which we’re always looking for. You might even say that “Bet and Flo” is lighthearted romp through elderly sex and dating in Florida, which we are very excited about, especially under the direction of Ashley Nicole Black.
